Technology has affected almost every aspect of modern day life. Almost every field of endeavor has been modernized by the use of technology. Did you know that one can actually get a degree in Zoo keeping technology? It is now possible to marry one’s love of wild animals with the latest developments in the field of technology. More and more zookeepers are spending as much time on a keyboard as they do in the animal exhibits.

One can be involved in protecting endangered species, replacing cages and exhibits with new and better researched animal habitats, and studying animal behavior to best ensure species continuation all by the use of the computers and keyboards. Sharing hard learned animal experience is now standard procedure with zoos from all over the globe. Knowledge of science, animal husbandry, horticulture, exhibit design, and veterinary zoo keeping are key areas ripe for the avid techno geek.

Zoos used to be a place to go see animals. They have slowly morphed into a much more involved entity vital to animal health and contentment. A world that values wildlife and their habitats is a goal any person seeking a degree in this field must share. Pikes Peak Community College is one of only two colleges in the United States that offers a degree in this emerging field. Through internships and study programs, students must become competent in the care of species in hoof stock, primates and carnivores and birds and reptiles.

Through the use of technology and the aid it provides in both acquiring and sharing information and analyzing data on behavior and health of animals, this skill set has become a major source of careers in the zoo keeping field.

I admit it. I am a Kindle junkie! As a voracious reader I have fallen in love with the Kindle since its inception. I find it the perfect e-reader for my needs. I travel extensively and it is so convenient to be able to take my library with me in this small, compact device.

As a matter of fact, I was so impressed with the latest Kindle that I decided to give one to my 85 year old mother. She lives in a retirement home and I was amazed by how many seniors living there used the Kindle. Seniors, because of their sedentary lifestyle, are a vast market for this technology. However, after helping Mom learn the device, I was quickly deluged with other requests from seniors living at the home.

I would suggest Amazon redesign a Kindle geared specifically for the senior market. They should completely eliminate the keyboard and enlarge the control keys to make it easier for seniors to negotiate the menu and home pages.

Seniors are not interested in any frills, they simply want to be able to see controls and understand the basics.

The button on the existing kindle is too small for them. The arrows used to negotiate the menu page which are located on the border of the main off/on control are simply invisible for most senior eyes. They simply don’t have the dexterity to utilize such a small control button. If Kindle could separate these functions into different, larger controls they would entice an increasingly large segment of our population to converting to the Kindle. The option of enlarging the font is absolutely vital to seniors. This was genius to include that function.

With the baby-boomer generation getting older, Kindle needs to capitalize on this emerging market.

My name is Justin Williams. I am an internet junkie. That’s right, I admit it. I am a programmer and web designer. I have started 66-Studio as a reference library of technology links that I have found useful to me over the years. Many of these websites I have found to be very helpful in my line of work, or I found to be just plain cool and I wanted to reference them later. I don’t seek to get any visitors to my website because this is only a directory designed for my personal use. If you do visit my website, I hope that some of the cool websites that I have found can be helpful to you are well.

Web Technology Software Companies

Adobe Creative Suite – Hands down the best software for design and website development. I couldn’t imagine writing code in notepad ever again!

Intuit – This is where I send people if they can’t afford my web design services. Intuit has a cool tool if you don’t have a large budget for your own unique website design.

Microsoft Frontpage – Before you laugh at this one, I only go to this site if I need to reference anything related to Frontpage. Some of my clients had Frontpage websites built many years ago and they just have me maintain them.

Domain Registration Services

Godaddy.com – By far the most user friendly domain name registration service that I have used. They are getting a little more expensive though.

Network Solutions – One of the first companies and I still have a few websites residing there.

Other Technology Directories

Professor Keenan’s Technology Links – My old college professor. Sorry about the old comment Professor! This is a great collection of technology links and resources.

Ecommerce Technology Directory – This is a resource with links to articles and software downloads in the ecommerce space.

Educational Technology Research Links – This offers links to a variety of educational research websites.

My Favorite Technology Blogs

TechCrunch – They have the latest news on anything that is technology related. I visit this website at least once a day.

Webmaster Central Blog – As a webmaster, it is important that I stay in touch with the best practices of Google. I have to make sure that the websites that I build for my clients are built with Google best practices in mind.

HigherVisibility.com – They have a pretty cool technology blog with a focus on internet technologies in relation to marketing.

Misc. Technology Links

Cool Homepages – They are a great resource for when I get stumped on a website design. I like fresh ideas.

Cool Site of the Day – Another great resource for when I need some fresh ideas. They have junked up their website a bit though.

Template Monster – They have some great website templates. I have modified a few for some of my clients.

Lotus Notes Development Software – I have some experience in developing Lotus Notes applications. This is by far the best software I have used so far.

The Goddard Library – I love space. I am throwing this one in here because this is a collection of some cool websites put together by NASA.
